NPST 01. Mobildetektiven: SMS cipher
Task description
Her får du den første oppgaven!

Solution
Okay, this is related to something with a phone, an SMS or an unknown mobile number. It also looks like a task where you just need to find the right tool to decode the cipher (this is typical for NPST).
We don’t have much more to go on, so tools like cyberchef, dcode.fr and boxentriq will come in handy. These tools specifically:
- Cyberchef’s “Magic” (very limited)
- Dcode’s “Cipher identifier”
- Boxentriq’s “Cipher identifier” (very limited)
Dcode’s cipher identifier correctly identifies the cipher as “Multi-tap Phone (SMS)”. If we decode the numbers in the task description with this tool we get this:
SYSTEM-INFISERT-GRUNKER-INCOMINGAnd, after failing to deliver PST{SYSTEM-INFISERT-GRUNKER-INCOMING} as a flag, I figured out that the dashes had to be replaced with spaces for the flag to be accepted.
TL;DR
Alternatively:
- Go to
https://dcode.fr/en - Search for “phone”, “sms”, “mobile”
- Find a cipher that gives readable output
- Replace
-with
Flag: PST{SYSTEM INFISERT GRUNKER INCOMING}
